Funded Projects

So far, £12.2 million has been raised through The Health Lottery in North West England.

Thanks to this money, 356 of local projects have been funded by People’s Health Trust, since 2011.

WAVE Adventure

Were awarded £49,910 to work with adults living in Bolton who are experiencing long-term and enduring mental health issues. The project will reduce social isolation and empower and motivate the participants by giving them control and responsibility for a programme of predominantly outdoor sports and recreational activities of their choice.

The activities will be led by the participants supported by expert practitioners who will ensure the activities, such as walking, team games, first aid training, leisure visits, rock climbing, mountain biking and canoeing are well planned and safe. Those participants wishing to develop stronger leadership roles will be supported and encouraged to access relevant training. As some of the planned activities, lend themselves to charitable action it is hoped that this will enable participants to support other disadvantaged groups.

Graham Wood from WAVE says: “This will make it possible for us to work closely with local people to help them to reduce stress and anxiety. The project will tackle real issues such as social isolation, lack of support networks & marginalisation so often faced.”

Reform Radio CIC

awarded £33,232 for a two-year project to deliver weekly radio and digital skills sessions for unemployed young adults living in Gorton, an inner city area of Manchester.

Participants will be aged 18-30 and will contribute to monthly radio shows that aim to provide a platform to discuss local issues and celebrate local events. Participants will be able to shape the project via a management group, as well as evaluate progress. They will also gain facilitation skills throughout, with the aim for them to deliver these sessions in the future.
